The proposed design builds on Adelaide’s reputation as home to one of the world’s great street circuits, delivering fast, safe and exciting racing.

The 4.13-kilometre circuit with 15 corners brings back elements of the iconic Formula One track of the 1980s and 90s – including Stag Corner, Rundle Road, Brewery Bend and Dequetteville Terrace – and takes it to a new level with fast, sweeping lines designed to cater for multi-class racing categories into the future.

For comparison, the current version of the Adelaide Street Circuit is 3.22 kilometres and 14 turns.

The proposed design for the redeveloped Adelaide Circuit blends blistering speed and uncompromising safety. Modelling shows MotoGP bikes will hit an estimated 343km/h along Dequetteville Terrace with an anticipated lap time of around 1 minute 26 seconds.

MotoGP operates under some of the most rigorous safety standards in global motorsport with no compromises when it comes to the safety of riders. Safety has therefore been a critical consideration through the circuit design process.

This has included detailed collaboration between SAMSB, Motorcycling Australia, MotoGP™ and Supercars Australia with specific input from former 125cc and 250cc world champion and current Safety Advisor to MotoGP™ Sports Entertainment Group Loris Capirossi and five-time Supercars champion Mark Skaife.

The MotoGP™ Grand Prix of Australia – Adelaide 2027 is a round of the World Championship to be held in November ahead of the bp Supercars Grand Final event from 2027 onwards. Exact dates are expected to be confirmed shortly.

Yes. Like the current Adelaide Street Circuit, it will remain a temporary street circuit built each year using temporary fencing, barriers, grandstands and infrastructure including the demountable pit building.

The 1995 Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide attracted a four-day attendance of 520,000, a record that stood for 31 years as the largest crowd for a motorsport event anywhere in the world. This was only recently superseded at the Formula 1 2026 British Grand Prix.

South Australia has earned its reputation as Australia’s motorsport capital through decades of passion, innovation and world-class event delivery. From the roar of Formula One on Adelaide’s streets in the 1980s and 90s to globally recognised events like the bp Adelaide Grand Final and the Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

Liberty Media, the owners of MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group and MotoGP, have made no secret they have been looking at street circuit options to bring racing closer to fans.

The fact that Adelaide has been selected by Liberty Media as the venue for the world’s first city street MotoGP race is testament to the Adelaide Circuit’s global standing, a reputation that was first established when the city welcomed Formula One to Australia in the mid-1980s.

The proposed layout will create opportunities for new spectator locations around the circuit. Further details on grandstands, general admission areas and viewing platforms will be announced closer to the event.

One of the great advantages of having a Street Circuit in the heart of the city is that there are many more accommodation options available, including excellent camping facilities in and around metro Adelaide and the beaches.

Adelaide has a proud motor sport history, and motor racing has been part of the eastern Park Lands since 1985 with the running of the first Grand Prix. The noise of engines is a huge part of the appeal for motorsport fans and eventgoers around the world.

Under FIM regulations, MotoGP bikes are restricted to 130db; this is more than Supercars but about the same as current Formula 1 cars, and these limits are carefully monitored.

The event will feature Moto2 and Moto3 as well as MotoGP races. Other support categories will be confirmed as we get closer to the event.
